Brett “Simpo” Simpson put on a incredible display of backside tube riding today at the Billabong Pro Tahiti. Simpo finds himself in the quarterfinals facing event dark horse Travis Logie. Both surfers have been surfing brilliantly and this match up will surely not be one to disappoint.
Simpo’s road to the quarters was not an easy one, but with his precision positioning and perfect technique he eliminated event favorites Freddy P and Damo Hobgood! On paper Simpo may not have been the favorite but after today’s performance the Huntington Beach wonder kid showed that he’s got the skills to pay the bills! Good luck tomorrow Simpo!
Our thoughts are with Dusty Payne as he had to pull out of the event due to a gnarly gash sustained to his knee while surfing monster Teahupoo. Dusty was slammed into the reef and required 14 stitches along with some gnarly bone bruising and serious pain! Dusty tried to stick it out to surf his Round 3 match up with local hero Michel Bourez but eventually withdrew from the event after realizing he was in no form to surf injured. We wish Dusty a speedy recovery and hoping for the best.
Today wasn’t the best day for Taylor Knox, he was unable to get into rhythm against an inform Owen Wright and was eliminated in third round of the competition. Also bowing out in Round 3 was Mick Fanning. Mick was up against and fired up Freddy Patacchia. Mick incurred an interference call from Freddy towards the end of the heat under Fred’s priority. Both Taylor and Mick finish the event with an equal 13th places overall.
