The 2011 Honolua Malibu Downwinder proved to be a successful event once again this year. With forecasted south winds prior to Saturdays event, conditions were looking dismal. However at 10am Saturday morning the winds shifted, allowing for a typical Californian downwind race to take place. “This is one of my favorite events of the year,” commented Honolua’s Eric Mehlberg. In a grassroots style event competiotors were treated to burittos, Joe Bark coveted homemade Salsa and cold Primo Beers at the finish. Vertra’s Anthony Vela and Jack Bark dominated their respective divions securing their names on the annual perpetual trophy. Past winners of this event include Vertra’s Ryan Addison and Molokai stock paddleboard record holder Mikey Cote.
