The Aussie Travis Grant came back to the Hawaiian Islands in hopes of defending his title from last years Rainbow Sandals Battle of the Paddle. This year in spite of a new headlining sponsor and a course change now called the “Mens Elite Survivor Course,” Grant managed to hold onto his title and remain the man to beat. Travis Grant won the 10-man survivor course final just a few seconds in front of fellow teammate and long time friend Danny Ching. The duo battled it out nose to nose, but in the end Grant was able to pull ahead by a few seconds.
The Weekends events also involved a wide variety of other events. The Waterman’s Challenge, Paddleboard and SUP distance races, as well as SUP and Paddleboard relay events.
Morgan Hoesterey finished 2nd overall in the Women’s “Waterman Challenge” event. This event included 3 legs. Athletes had to swim, paddleboard and SUP around a designated course. Morgan finished in a time of 24 minutes and 19 seconds, just 3 seconds off of the women’s champion Gillan Gibree. Morgan also finished atop the podium for the Open Women’s Distance Hawaii Kai run on the 14ft SUP in a time of 1:39:45.
