Day 1 photos of the Vertra Surf Team from the Billabong Pipe Masters

Shane Dorian entered the event as Billabong’s wildcard and pulled into a few caverns of his own in between commentating heats and giving a professional insight to surfing huge Pipeline!  Shane progressed through to two heats and will contest Round 3 when competition commences.

Dusty Payne is a World Tour surfer and slotted himself perfectly in Pipeline’s beautiful afternoon light!  Payne cruised into Round 3 of the Billabong Pipe Masters.

Maui’s Ian Walsh charged with reckless abandon.  Ian qualified for the 2011 Billabong Pipe Masters through a top placing in the Volcom Pipeline Pro earlier this season.  Ian whom is comfortable in big and gnarly conditions showed just that at Pipeline.

Ian likes to sit deep in the lineup and this is evidence of him setting his line through the infamous Pipeline boil.

From through the Pipeline boil into a monstrous cave, Ian prepares to ride the bull!  Ian advanced through 2 rounds and will compete in Round 3 on Day 2 of competition.
